In a tangent of a blowingWind forum thread, a discussion came about on how we should quote lengthy external articles.
There are several opinions on the preferred way.
Cut and Paste into article: Pro : Makes it easier to read and response. Better continuity. Cons : Clutters out the thread unnecessarily.
Personally I come from the Intellectual Property (IP) and fair-use point of view.
Most of these interesting quotes are from external COMMERCIAL sites. It we cut the entire article / pict entirely, we are sort of depriving them of their potential advertisement revenue". I pefer that we respect the IP of the original owner and just link to the website.
We are non-commercial, I rather we do not unfairly rob the owners of potential eyeballs.
I just experiment and realise that the software of this site will pop up a new window in we hyperlink across, so may not cause too much disruption.
My two cents.
Let me discuss with oralb and lungker too.
We welcome suggestions.
Cheers.
